What's the frequency?

24 Mar 2011

There's no shortage of online radio options - in fact, the web is bulging with so much choice, you sometimes need a guide to take you through the music. Which is where we, and thisfrequency.com come in.

Born out of  love for music, and a natural desire to want as many people to hear that music as possible, thisfrequency.com is a Middle East and North Africa based station that concentrates on shows and sounds from those areas. Launched at the start of 2011, the online radio station has quickly grown in stature and quality, and now boasts an impressive roster of local and international DJs including Dubai's own Dion Mavath as its most high profile.

The shows are available on a 24 hour, 7 days a week basis, and rather than just forming random mixes of music, are guided by the DJs and cover every electronic dance base out there, from dark and progressive house to progressive, uplifting and tech trance house.

Included in the format, are a Top 10 section showcasing the biggest tracks across house, progressive and trance, an artist of the week segment (Trentemoller and Sander van Doorn have been recent recipients which says something of their impeccable tastes) and the Avalanche show, which is the site's main section and features shout outs and requests.

Thisfrequency.com is also available for live streaming from Blackberries and iPhones making it accessible virtually anywhere. The website also has an interactive chat room, comments section on each shows' tracklisting while you can also vote for your favourite artists, with the winners pencilled in to play at a live event in the near future.

The website's main creator, Hani Al Beik, insists that this is just the first step on a slow-burning musical revolution, and with visitor traffic increasing on an hourly basis, we strongly believe him
