The Wink returns

25 Jan 2012
While America might be undergoing a rave renaissance at the moment as dubstep, electro and the nasty RnB/electro hybrid tear it up from coast to coast, the country has - lest we forget - always been at the heart of the house and techno movement. And in the late 90s, the beat for that heart was partially supplied by Philadelphia resident Josh Wink. Under both his own name, and under his Size 9 moniker, he produced acid-warped hit after hit, culminating in his global smash 'Higher State of Consciousness.'

As a DJ, he's still very much in demand, and is no stranger to these shores having played seminal sets at both iBO and several times at Trilogy, which is where he returns to play on Friday January 27. Musically, he's still very active, and likes to work with slightly unconventional methods: 'I like to use the mistake theory, which is: I use a lot of things that you and I might consider mistakes....by (experimenting) with effects, with filters, with percentages in my sampler, and just doing stuff that you wouldn't ordinarily do.' And that chaos theory results in sets that span current tech house, lost house master gems, and has been known to delve into drum and bass territory from time to time. And we for one can't wait to hear what he has in store.
