A quick word with... Sabrina Terence

28 Jan 2012

She\'s one of the most high profile female DJs in the region, and boasts of international gigs (which perhaps explains how she has nearly 1million Facebook fans). We caught up with the German DJ to find out more...

You\'ve played a lot of clubs in Dubai - what\'s been your best gig to date?

Ooh, that\'s a really difficult question, as every gig in Dubai is special for me. I am very thankful for all opportunities the promoters in town, or the clubs have given me.

And how would you describe your sound?
My favourite genre is between house and progressive house, but I play almost every kind of house music now - as long as the dancefloor keeps moving I am happy.

What got you inspired to become a DJ?
Eletronic dance music was always my passion, since I was a teenager. When I moved to Dubai and went out clubbing, I saw how much fun the DJs had rocking the crowd. But many Producer and DJs have inspired me as well, including David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Erick Morillo, Jerry Ropero and many more.

And you\'ve made the leap into production - what\'s your home set up like, what do you use to make your music?
My home studio is 2 very small speakers, Logic Pro on my computer and a small keyboard. For the final production, I mostly fly to Germany to a bigger studio and finish the tracks there.

You\'ve got a huge Facebook following, well almost a million people when there are only about 2 million people in Dubai at the very most - where are your fans from?

Yes that\'s because I have been travelling all over the world for the last 3 years. I had gigs in Malaysia, China, Lebanon, Turkey, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, India, Pakistan, France, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Lagos, Egypt, Mauritius and many more. So my fans are from all over the world. The Top 3 countries are: UK, USA and Australia, and Dubai is ranked 19 with almost 9000 fans.

Is there a camaraderie amongst DJs in Dubai?
I would say yes and no :) I have so many DJ friends in Dubai, and we support each other very well. We hang out for a coffee or even BBQ and I have 3 other female djs I work a lot with. When I am busy or not in town for a gig , I am very happy to pass it to my DJ friends.

And what\'s in the pipeline for 2012 for Sabrina Terence?
My next tourdates will be in America and Brazil, and Australia is also on the list.
