South African indie rock band The Parlotones have made a name for themselves as one of the best-selling South African music artists of all-time. In addition to millions of sales, The Parlotones have won numerous awards and performed all over the globe.
Formed in Johannesburg in 1998 the band performed around the city before releasing their debut album ‘Episode’ in 2003. The album was well received amongst universities and led to The Parlotones releasing their second album ‘RadioControlledRobot’ in 2006. The album was a significant main stream success in South Africa, winning Best Rock Album at the South African Music Awards.
The Parlotones continued to grow in success with their next album ‘A World Next Door to Yours’ which went on to sell over 80,000 copies, becoming two times Platinum certified. The album also earnt the band numerous awards as South Africa’s Best Band from several publications.
2009 saw The Parlotones release ‘Stardust Galaxies’ which first saw the band hit shelves and screens in Europe. They were also invited on a US Tour accompanying Blue October. The Parlotones also performed at the 2010 FIFA World Cup celebration concert alongside Shakira, Alicia Keys and the Black Eyed Peas.
In the last decade, The Parlotones have released a further four albums, each one earning them more praise from fans and critics alike. They have since moved to Los Angeles to pursue further success, made possible through a string of successful US tours.
