Platinumlist recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in the 37th edition of The International Live Music Conference (ILMC) 2025 in London. As always, ILMC provided an excellent platform for our team to engage with industry professionals from around the world, explore strategic partnerships, and gain valuable insights into the evolving live entertainment landscape.
One of the highlights of our participation was our CEO, Cosmin Ivan, who contributed to the Middle East Live: States of Growth panel discussion. This session brought together key industry leaders to examine the rapid growth and transformation of the live entertainment sector in the Middle East.
Key Insights from the Panel Discussion
Cosmin joined an esteemed panel of experts, including Emma Banks (CAA, UK), Iain Campbell (Oak View Group, UAE), Shelley Frost (The Fridge Entertainment, AE), Lance Tobin (VP Booking of Al Dana Amphitheatre), Thomas Ovesen (All Things Live Middle East), and Paul Pacifico (Music Commission, KSA). The discussion covered the latest industry trends, challenges, and opportunities in the region’s dynamic live entertainment market.
Evolving Trends in Live Entertainment
During his presentation, Cosmin shared exclusive data from 2024, highlighting:
- An 800% increase in the popularity of hip-hop across the Middle East.
- A significant rise in attendance at Arabic and international live music concerts.
- Distinct ticket-purchasing behaviors compared to Western markets.
A key takeaway was the unique nature of ticket sales in the GCC region, where last-minute purchases dominate –
“We need to understand that the GCC countries exhibit different purchasing patterns compared to Europe,” Cosmin explained. “As much as 80% of ticket sales occur within the last three days leading up to an event, which can be challenging for organizers unfamiliar with the region.”
Addressing Ticket Fraud in the Gulf
Another critical topic discussed was the increasing prevalence of ticket fraud in the Gulf. The region has seen a rise in fraudulent event advertisements on social media, targeting audiences new to the expanding entertainment industry. This further reemphasized the importance of anti-fraud technology like Platinumlist’s SafeTicket that comes equipped with a dynamic QR code to combat fraud ticket sales
Lance Tobin from Al Dana Amphitheatre also highlighted how the rise of ticketing fraud, while concerning, is ultimately a sign of a maturing market. With the Gulf region’s increasing prominence in live entertainment, fraudulent actors are attempting to exploit the growing demand. However, industry leaders and local authorities are working together to crack down on these scams and ensure a more secure ticketing environment for fans.
“We obviously have to strike down on these scams with the help of local government initiatives,” Lance mentioned. “But in a way, it shows that there’s a lot of money to be made as the show count continues to rise in the region.”
Saudi Arabia’s Entertainment Boom
Saudi Arabia’s emergence as a major entertainment hub was another focal point of the discussion. The country has experienced a remarkable increase in event attendance, with beach club parties alone witnessing a 100% rise in participation –
“Seventy percent of Saudi Arabia’s population is under 35 years old, making them more digitally engaged than previous generations,” noted Iain Campbell. “This shift is driving efforts to reposition the Kingdom as a vibrant and dynamic destination for entertainment.”
Building a Sustainable Entertainment Ecosystem
A key conclusion from the panel was the necessity of developing a sustainable grassroots music ecosystem in the Middle East. While the influx of international talent is exciting, fostering local talent and infrastructure is essential for long-term industry growth.
Participating in ILMC 2025 was an enriching experience that reinforced the rapid evolution of the Middle East’s live entertainment sector. The insights gained, connections made, and discussions held will undoubtedly shape Platinumlist’s future initiatives as we continue to drive innovation in the industry.
