Just follow the road out, then continue over sand until the water and mangroves come into view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Al Thakira Mangroves are one of the oldest and largest forests in the country, with trees growing right in saltwater. The area was declared a <strong>protected reserve<\/strong> in 2006 because of its marine life. It\u2019s one of those natural places in Qatar that doesn\u2019t feel crowded, unless you count the wildlife: fish, crabs, and birds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can still <strong>spot flamingos<\/strong> here, feeding in the shallow water. The water stays shallow, and there\u2019s enough space to stop and look around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re driving from Doha, it takes about 40 minutes to get there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spend one weekend at this hidden gem in Qatar, and you\u2019ll come back recharged.
