British DJ Ikonika quickly established herself as one of the UK’s top dubstep talents through her sharp recordings and energetic live sets. Born in London to an Egyptian father and Filipino mother, Ikonika started out as a drummer in metal bands before moving over to the fresh and exciting electronic music world.
Inspired by icons such as Madonna, she has released two albums, several EPs and numerous singles during her ever-evolving career. Her first single ‘Please’ was released on Hyperdub records in 2008 and since then she has gained a fan base around the world.
Her debut album ‘Contact, Love, Want, Have’ which was released in 2010 was critically acclaimed and well received in the underground music scene. Ikonika used this hype to perform in shows across Europa, Asia, Australia and the Americas, making her a truly global DJ.
Ikonika proved that her talents were a permanent fixture in her arsenal with the release of second album ‘Aerotropolis’ in 2013. The album was a combination of electro, RnB and Latin styles, receiving praise from Resident Advisor and NME, as well as being named the 2nd best Album of the Year by DJ Mag. The British publication also nominated Ikonika in their Best Producer and Best Album categories.
