American DJ and producer Danny Krivit is widely regarded as one of the original DJs, having started his career in the 1970s. Brought up by a jazz singing mother and musical manager father, Krivit was born into music. As a young boy he met many of the world’s most influential musicians including Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon.
Kritivt became a full-time DJ in 1971 when he started performing at The Night Circle, and his father’s club ‘Ones’ in 1975. Krivit began to make a name for himself and he performed at numerous venues throughout his native New York. Krivit began his long-time friendships with legendary DJs Larry Levan and Francois K at The Loft, one of the top venues for DJs at the time.
Moving through the 1980s, Krivit continued to add to an already impressive list of residencies, performing at Paradise Garage, Area, Red Zone and Studio 54, amongst countless others, also receiving airtime from radio stations such as Kiss FM. Krivit also branched out into studio work and featured on numerous tracks by James Brown and Gloria Gaynor.
As DJing began to build as a culture in Europe, Krivit continued to perform at many of the top clubs and fledgling festivals in the USA and around the world in the 1990s. Krivit continued to tour the world and is strongly recognised within the music scene as a key part of dance music and DJ culture history.
