German DJ and producer Marcel Dettmann is one of the top names in modern techno music. Born near Berlin, Dettmann was influenced by electronic music from a young age, enjoying music from bands such as The Cure and Depeche Mode.
Dettmann began to buy and sell vinyl records as a substitute for not having a nearby record store and in his mid-twenties he began to work as a resident DJ at Ostgut nightclub. He went on to set up his own label, MDR, and has since been responsible for the start of many new artists’ careers.
Dettmann has also produced two albums, which have been released on Ostgut Ton, as well as numerous singles and remixes for artists such as Moderat and Junior Boys. He has also created compilation albums for Fabric nightclub in London, Berlin’s Berghain, Music Man and one of the DJ Kicks compilation series.
The MDR head honcho continues to tour the world as a DJ and is a regular at the world-famous Berghain nightclub. He has performed at numerous venues and top festivals in every corner of the globe and is famed for his techno mixes which contain both modern hits and timeless classics.
