Reggae band Morgan Heritage are one of the top acts in their genre and since forming in 1994 in Brooklyn, New York, they have gone on to release numerous albums and singles and have performed around the world for thousands of reggae music lovers.
The band, consisting of Peter ‘Peetah’, Una, Roy ‘Gramps’, Nakhamyah ‘Lukes’ and Memmalatel ‘Mr Mojo’ Morgan, all of whom are children of reggae artist Denroy Morgan. Following their first appearance at Jamaica’s famous Reggae Sunsplash festival, they were signed by MCA, releasing their debut album Miracles soon after.
Before the turn of the Century, Morgan Heritage released three more albums, collaborating with Bobby Dixon and Lloyd James in the process. Their second album, Protect Us Jah, released in 1997 was critically acclaimed and put Morgan Heritage on the lips of many reggae enthusiasts.
The band continued to release studio albums and bolstered their discography with a few live albums and compilations. The live albums have seen them record performances from one of their European tours and a memorable performance in Amsterdam in 2003.
Morgan Heritage’s biggest success came in 2016 when they won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album for their 2015 release Strictly Roots. The album also reached number one in the Top Reggae Albums chart and features appearances from Chronixx, Jo Mersa Marley and Gil Sharone.
