Biography & Career Stereo MC, a British hip hop/electronic dance duo formed in Nottingham in 1985, achieved global success with their single "Connected," which climbed high in charts worldwide. Consisting of vocalist Rob Birch and DJ/producer Nick Hallam, the pair established the Gee Street recording studio and label, opting for public transport over a backing band during early gigs. Their debut album, "33-45-78" (1989), showcased the pioneering British hip-hop track "Elevate My Mind," which made waves on the US R&B record chart. The breakthrough came in 1992 with their hit album "Connected," peaking at #2 on the UK Albums Chart and earning them prestigious BRIT Awards. Despite a hiatus, the Stereo MCs remained active, contributing remixes for artists like Madonna and the Jungle Brothers. Their discography boasts albums like "Deep Down & Dirty" (2001), "Double Bubble" (2008), and "Emperor's Nightingale" (2011), displaying their diverse musical talents. The passing of drummer Owen If in 2022 marked a poignant moment in their journey.
