Indian musician and record producer Daler Mehndi is one of the most popular Bollywood recording artists in the world today. Known for his energetic dance songs, his distinctive voice and unique sound, Mehndi has toured the world performing his music which have been featured in many Bollywood movies.
Having begun his career in 1995, inspired by friends and family, Mehndi, already the runner-up in the Voice of Asia International Ethnic and Pop Music Contest, signed a record deal with Magnasound. His debut album, ‘Bolo Ta Ra Ra’, sold over 20 million copies and was a worldwide success, winning him the Channel V Best Indian Male Artist Award.
Mehndi continued to enjoy success with his third album, ‘Balle Balle, which earnt him a further six Channel V Awards, as well as with his track ‘Na Na Na Re’ which was included in the soundtrack for Mrityudata.
Mehndi has become more recently known for his high-profile collaborations with some of India’s top stars, most notably with Priyanka Chopra, who was featured in the music video for ‘Sajan Mere Satrangiya’ and with A.R. Rahman on ‘Nach Le’. He was also approached by US Dance Music producer Deadmau5 who had created a remix of Mehndi’s ‘Tunak Tunak Tun’, which had become a worldwide hit shortly prior.
Mehndi has also become known for his performances, including a worldwide tour for Coca-Cola in 1998, taking him to the UK, US, Singapore, Middle East and more. He has also been seen in appearances at the closing ceremony of the NASDAQ stock exchange.
