American stand-up comedian Jerrod Charmichael is among one of the top African-American comedians in America. Through his vibrant stand-up performances and his popular NBC show he has become a household name on the stand-up circuit.

Born in North Carolina, Charmichael made the move to Los Angeles in 2008, when he was 20 years old, to follow his dreams in comedy. He worked the circuit honing his craft and earning recognition along the way before he appeared at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival amongst the ‘New Faces’ category.

Since then, Charmichael had an appearance in the 2014 film Neighbors and on The Goodwin Games TV show. Shortly after he was approached by HBO to release two comedy specials. The first, filmed by Spike Lee, saw him perform at The Comedy Store in Hollywood. The second special came out three years later and saw Charmichael perform at New York’s Masonic Hall’s Grand Lodge Room. The special, released in 2017, was directed by fellow comedian Bo Burnham.

His NBC sitcom, The Charmichael Show, premiered in August 2015 and has run for two seasons to date on NBC. The show, which Charmichael writes, produces and stars in, draws a number of comparisons to his own life and is set for a third season in May 2017.
