Electronic music act Major Lazer are true superstars in the world of dance and pop music. Combined from DJs and producers Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire, the trio have travelled the world performing their chart-topping hits, winning multiple awards along the way.
Formed in 2009 by Diplo and Switch, the duo released their debut album ‘Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do’. The album featured vocals from Nina Sky, Santigold and Mr. Vegas amongst others as well as production from Crookers and Afrojack. They followed this up with the ‘Lazers Never Die EP’ in 2010.
Major Lazer continued to release music amidst a rapidly growing electronic music scene with the Free the Universe album which included a world tour throughout Spring 2013. The band added Rita Ora and Snoop Dogg to their collaborations list before they hit the charts with their next album.
2015 saw Major Lazer release ‘Peace is the Mission’ which featured work from Ellie Goulding, Ariana Grande and many more. The single ‘Lean On’ with DJ Snake and MØ became a worldwide hit winning the Billboard Music Award for Top Dance/Electronic Song and topped charts around the world as well as reaching Number 2 in the UK and Number 4 in the US.
Major Lazer repeated their success with the lead single from their next album, ‘Music is the Weapon’. ‘Cold Water’ saw them reunite with MØ as well as pop superstar Justin Beiber. The single was a huge hit, being certified platinum multiple times and topping the UK and US Dance charts.
Major Lazer have also become known for their energetic and ‘larger-than-life’ performances. The trio have toured the world several times and have performed in front of sell-out crowds at some of dance music’s top festivals and clubs.
