One of the most recognizable Pakistani singers in the world, Atif Aslam is also a reputed film actor having appeared in 2011 film Bol which became one of the ten highest-grossing Pakistani films of all time. His 2004 album Jal Pari – meaning Mermaid – announced him to the world, with the title trackand ‘Mahi Ve’ becoming big hits in his native Pakistan and further afield.
His Bollywood breakthrough came when director Mahesh Bhatt asked Atif to include his track ‘Woh Lamhey’ in his 2005 picture Zeher. More Bollywood work came his way in 2010 when his tracks ‘Doorie’ and ‘Maula’ were selected for the soundtrack to Spanish Beauty, before he sang 2 songs on Mina Nair’s 2012 film The Reluctant Fundamentalist. With a big following in Dubai following several sold out gigs including a string of concerts at the World Trade Centre, he’s also a big star in the UK having sold thousands of tickets for his 2013 tour which took in Birmingham and two sold out shows at London’s 02 Academy.
The biggest superstar in Pakistan, and with an increasingly strong global audience, Atif Aslam can boast nearly 20 million Facebook fans, and he was recently given the highest civil honour in Pakistan, the prestigious “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz”.
