American hip-hop artist French Montana is one of the leading talents in the hip-hop scene today. Having begun performing when he was 18 years old, French has built a career that has seen him collaborate with many of the top artists in the game, release numerous charting singles and win several awards in the process.
French Montana spent a number of years honing his sound in the underground scene, before making waves with his 2009 mixtape, ‘Coke Wave’, alongside Max B. He continued to release critically acclaimed mixtapes, seeing his fan base grow around him. In 2013, French dropped his debut studio album, ‘Excuse MY French’, which was released by Interscope and the Mayback Music Group. The album, which has sold over 170,000 unites, topped the US R&B and Rap charts and went as high as Number 4 on the US Albums Chart.
Along with the success of his debut album, French gained further publicity through the singles ‘Ain’t Worried About Nothin’, ‘Freaks’ with Nicky Minaj and ‘Pop That’, which featured Rick Ross, Drake and Lil Wayne and reached Number 2 on the US Rap Chart.
Montana has since added more singles to his discography, earning him more chart placements and recognition. French’s track with Chris Brown, ‘Loyal’, was an instant hit, peaking at Number 9 on the US chart. The 2016 track ‘No Shopping’ saw French again collaborate with Drake and the track reached Number 36 in the US.
The rapper has also been formally recognized for his talents several times, with three Grammy Award nominations, two for Best Rap Song for ‘All Day’ and ‘All the Way Up’, which also earnt him a nod for Best Rap Performance. French has also won two BET Hip Hop Awards, one for ‘Pop That’ as the Best Club Banger and another for ‘All the Way Up’, which was named the Best Collabo, Duo or Group.
