Filipino boxer and politician Manny Pacquiao is arguably one of the greatest boxers of all-time and is the leading celebrity in the Philippines. Having won eleven world titles, and become the only eight-division champion, Pacquiao, famed for his southpaw stance, is one of boxing’s greatest champions. Since 2010, Pacquiao has also been a prominent member of the Philippines government, as both a congressman and Senator.
Having made his professional debut in 1995, Pacquiao became the leading boxer in the Philippines, winning his first world title in 1998. He went on to retain his status as one of the best fighters in the world, defending his title numerous times before moving up through several weight-classes, from flyweight to welterweight.
Among numerous other titles, Pacquiao has been the WBC Flyweight, super flyweight, lightweight and super welterweight champion as well as the IBF super bantamweight and WBO welterweight champion. His most famous fights include 2004’s draw against Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas, his title-winning bout against Ricky Hatton in 2009 and the 2015 loss to undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr, which was billed as The Fight of the Century.
His sporting achievements have also lead to Pacquiao being recognized as the Boxer of the Year several times and the WBC’s Boxer of the Decade in 2010. He has also received accolades from Sports Illustrated, Time Magazine, Forbes and The Ring, making him a true superstar in the sport.
More recently, following retirement from the sport, Pacquiao has pursued a political career, seeing him hold both congress and senate positions in the Philippines. He has also released numerous albums as a singer and has also been a guest star in several films and television shows in the Philippines.
