Gergely Boganyi

Gergely Boganyi

Hungarian Gergely Bogyáni is one of the most highly regarded and recognised pianists on modern times. Born into a musical family, he began playing the piano at age four and eventually went to the Liszt Academy in Budapest to further his studies.

In Bogyáni’s career, his studies and passion for the piano have also taken him to some of the most respected institutes in the industry, including the Dibelius Academy in Helsinki and Indiana University in Bloomington. He has also studied under and worked with renowned professors Matti Raekallio and György Sebök.

Bogyáni is also well known for his piano designs and development. Frustrated with the lack of development in piano construction for over 100 years, Bogyáni went on to design his own piano, which has become known as the ‘bat-piano’.

Bogyáni has also found himself the recipient of multiple awards. His first success came in 1996 when he won the International Franz Liszt Competition and also became a citizen of honour in his hometown the same year. In 2000 he was awarded the Liszt Prize in Hungary and received the Cross Merit of the White Rose by the Finnish President. A year later Bogyáni won the Hungarian Gramofon Prize for Best Concert Event and Performing Artist in Hungary. In 2004, he received the Kossuth Prize in Hungary and became the youngest person to ever receive the prestigious award.
