British band New Order were one of the pioneers of the synthesized music era that swept the nation in the 1980s and they rapidly established themselves as one of the most highly praised and influential groups of the decade.
New Order have travelled across the world, performed for millions of fans and have produced some of the most iconic tracks of our time. Known for combining elements of the post-punk period with synthesizers and electronic dance music they shaped much of the music scene in the UK during the 1980s and have influenced and inspired musicians to the present day.
As producers, New Order have released 10 studio albums, 3 live albums and 12 compilation albums, but their most well-known single came in 1983 when the band released Blue Monday. The record went on to become the best-selling 12” single of all time and reached No. 9 in the UK Singles Chart. Since then the track has been remixed and reworked by many musicians and has been officially re-released several times, selling over 1.2 million copies, most notably in 1988 when Quincy Jones released it as Blue Monday 88 and the track hit No. 3 in the UK and topped the US Dance Chart.
Following many years of success, New Order split in 1993 as the members went to pursue solo projects, but they reunited in 1998, and again in 2011. Since the most recent reunion New Order have continued to perform concerts and at festivals around the world and release their most recent album, Music Complete, in 2015.
