British electronic music artist Kode9 is one of the leading names in dubstep, having been one of the early pioneers of the genre. Coming from a background of jungle, drum and bass and 2-step garage, Kode9 founded Hyperdub records.
Having moved to London in the late nineties, Kode9 began to establish himself as a DJ and in 2004 he appeared on the second Grime compilation, released on Rephlex records. Kode9’s main success came through his label, Hyperdub, which released their first track in 2004, titled ‘Sine of the Dub’ a collaboration with Daddi Gee.
The label has gone from strength-to-strength, releasing numerous critically acclaimed dubstep singles, including the Burial album, which was named as The Wire’s Number One Album in 2006.
Kode9 has also released two further studio albums, Black Sun in 2011 and Nothing in 2015, both released on his Hyperdub record label.
