Hailing from Maastricht, Netherlands, Rieu showcased his early violin talent, embarking on his musical journey at the tender age of five. He further refined his musical aptitude through education at esteemed institutions such as the Conservatoire Royal in Liège and the Conservatorium Maastricht. His unwavering commitment to music led him to successfully conclude his training at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he achieved the prestigious "Premier Prix" distinction.
In 1975, André Rieu entered into matrimony with Marjorie Kochmann, a gifted language teacher and composer, and together they have been blessed with two children. Notably, Rieu is a polyglot, proficient in Dutch, English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish.
One of Rieu's most significant accomplishments lies in the establishment of the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987.
