Canadian wrestler Kevin Owens is one of the top wrestlers in the game today. Having spent 14 years in the independent circuit, Owens joined the WWE in 2014 and has since gone on to become the longest reigning WWE Universal Champion.
Having followed wrestling from a young age, Owens started training when he was 14 and making his competitive debut when he was 19. Owens moved throughout the independent circuit, participating in matches in the International Wrestling Syndicate, Combat Zone Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Guerilla outfits, earning recognition and respect along the way.
An already established tag team wrestler, Owens joined WWE’s NXT system in 2014. Owens rose through the ranks in the system, defeating Sami Zayn and winning the NXT Championship in 2015. He held the title for 143 days and, after losing it to Finn Bálor, entered his name into the challenge for the Intercontinental Championship.
Following a spat with John Cena, Owens defeated Ryback to become the Intercontinental Champion, defending it against Ryback but losing out to Dean Ambrose shortly after, but regaining it for a second time in a fatal five-way match.
Continuing his success in multiple-way matches, Owens became the Universal Champion through a four-way elimination match in August 2016. Owens held onto the title for 189 days defeating Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in his title defenses. Most recently, Owens secured the United States Championship when he defeated former Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho.
