Dutch darts player Michael van Gerwen is one of the leading darts players in the world today. Having burst onto the scene in the 2010s, van Gerwen has gone on to win numerous major titles, including two World Championships.
Having picked up darts from the age of 13, van Gerwen became one of the fastest rising stars in the sport, winning numerous youth titles including the German Open, Norway Open, Swedish Open and the Dutch National Youth Championship in 2005 and 2006.
van Gerwen turned professional in 2007 and immediately began establishing himself as a strong player on the pro darts circuit, becoming the youngest player ever to have a televised nine-dart finish. van Gerwen’s career took a major turn in 2012 when he won his first major title, his first of three World Grand Prixs.
Since then, van Gerwen has won two World Championships, in 2014 and 2017, as well as two World Matchplays and two Premier League titles, becoming the first player to top the league, other than Phil Taylor. 2016 saw van Gerwen become the Best ProTour Player, PDPA Players’ Player of the Year and the PDC Player of the Year.
