Liwa International Festival is making its return this winter, and once again Al Dhafra’s desert will be buzzing with action. The festival opens on Friday, December 12, 2025, and will keep the energy going until Saturday, January 3, 2026. For more than three weeks, visitors can expect a variety of activities on the sand.

There will be fast-paced races, drifting displays, and the ever-popular dune driving contests where drivers from around the world test their skills. All of this unfolds against the backdrop of Tal Moreeb, known as the tallest dune in the country.

The Liwa desert itself is worth the visit. Its sweeping dunes have even caught the eye of Hollywood— right there, Dune: Part Three is currently being filmed.

The program of Liwa International Festival 2025-26 features plenty of family-friendly entertainment like music concerts, camel races, and cultural tours. Liwa Village will be at the heart of it, offering traditional crafts, workshops for kids, and a wide choice of local food stalls. It’s a chance to slow down, explore, and enjoy a taste of Emirati heritage.

With more desert events on Abu Dhabi’s calendar this year, thrill-seekers should also look out for the third edition of Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge. Check out the dates of the event and plan your trip out to the sands.
