The UAE has just introduced a new option for the flu vaccine this season: a nasal spray! This marks the first time the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has made it available as part of the approved vaccines. It’s a needle-free way to protect against the flu, making it a great choice for anyone who prefers not to get an injection.
The nasal spray flu vaccine is available for:
- Healthy individuals aged 2 to 49
- Those who prefer a needle-free option, including children and adults
The nasal spray vaccine is available at selected public and private health centers, and the UAE is working to expand access to more people.

The nasal spray works just like the regular injectable flu vaccine. It uses live attenuated (weakened) virus technology to boost immunity in the body and at the mucosal level, like the nose and throat. However, this type of vaccine is not suitable for:
- Children under 2 and adults over 50
- Pregnant women
- People with certain health conditions or weakened immune systems
If you fall into any of these groups, the injectable vaccine might be a better choice. It’s always a good idea to check with your doctor to figure out what’s best for you.
With all the recent developments in the UAE, from the launch of Digital Dirham payments to flying taxis becoming a reality, and a new 12-lane highway being discussed, it’s clear that the country is pushing boundaries in all areas.
