Fireworks lighting up the skyline, busy streets, late dinners, and countdown plans that stretch past midnight: New Year in the UAE is always a big moment. If you’re heading out to celebrate or just moving around the city on January 1, knowing where you can park for free can save a lot of time, money, and a bit of stress.

Here’s a look at how public parking works across the UAE during New Year holidays 2026.

Abu Dhabi: Free Parking and Tolls on January 1

If you’re celebrating in Abu Dhabi, getting around on New Year’s Day will be easier on your wallet. Public parking under the Mawaqif system will be free on January 1. Darb toll gates will also be inactive on the same day, so you won’t be charged for passing through them.

Regular paid public parking and toll fees return on January 2.

Sharjah: Two Days of Free Public Parking, With Exceptions

Public parking will be free on January 1 and 2.

It’s worth keeping one thing in mind: the exemption only applies to standard public parking areas. Smart parking yards and blue paid-parking zones continue to operate as usual, even during official holidays.

Dubai: Free Public Parking on January 1 Only

If Dubai is where your New Year plans take you, public parking will be free on January 1. The exception is multi-storey parking facilities and Al Khail Gate (N-365), where usual fees still apply.

Paid parking across the rest of Dubai resumes on January 2. For more tips on how to get around Dubai on the big night of 2026, including metro timings and road closures, check this quick guide.

Ajman: Free Public Parking on New Year’s Day

If you’ll be in Ajman to welcome 2026, there’s good news. Paid public parking will be free on January 1, giving residents and visitors one less thing to think about on the holiday.

As a reminder, public parking in Ajman is usually free on Fridays. Paid services in this emirate will resume only on Saturday, January 3.

Wherever you’re welcoming the new year – Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, or Sharjah – these updates will make your New Year holidays a little smoother.
