Sharjah has taken a genuinely creative approach to architecture with its latest project. A stunning mosque with glass dome just opened in Al Dhaid, and it feels unlike anything else in the emirate. If you’re already planning a visit, Al Nasr Mosque is located in the Jabal Omar neighbourhood.

The first thing that catches your eye is the huge glass dome that covers nearly 80% of the roof. Instead of a traditional ceiling, you see a structure made of hexagonal glass panels arranged in a honeycomb pattern. The glass allows natural light to fill the prayer hall throughout the day.

Al Nasr Mosque can accommodate 1,325 worshippers in total:

  • 470 people in main prayer hall
  • up to 1,180 people in courtyard and outdoor prayer areas
  • 145 female worshippers in women’s prayer hall

The 38-metre minaret also reflects the modern direction in architecture. Rather than following a straight vertical line, it rises in a curved form that complements the mosque’s contemporary design.

Projects like Al Nasr Mosque show how new architectural ideas are being introduced in Sharjah. At the same time, the emirate values its heritage and past with equal care. You can see that at Al Estiqlal Square, which now features a restored historic mosque and the Independence Monument.

Sharjah isn’t choosing between history and innovation but develops both at the same time. To see how that modern vision looks in practice, take a look at District 11, the UAE’s smart business and lifestyle hub designed by AI.
