You don’t usually walk into a gallery and see oil used like this. Our UAE, now open at Noor Royal Gallery, uses one of the country’s defining resources in a literal way. Every artwork in the exhibition is created with raw petroleum on canvas.

The collection moves between past and present of the country through a consistent visual style. Sepia tones, gold hues, and detailed compositions show scenes tied to the UAE’s heritage, leadership, and daily life.

The price tags for some of the pieces are high, but the size of canvas and the use of petroleum make it easy to see why. Here are some of the works and their prices:

  • History of Dubai = AED 50,000
  • Mapping a Dream = AED 50,000
  • Eternal Leader = AED 45,000

The exhibition is now open at Noor Royal Gallery. Visit details and other info via @noorroyalgallery.

If you’re in the mood for more art, there’s another event coming up in Dubai. DIFC Art Nights return this April with new installations, live performances, and open-air gallery access. It’s free to attend, so you can walk in and explore at your own pace.
