The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a major upgrade to Dubai’s road network — a 605-meter, two-lane bridge on Sheikh Rashid Road. This new bridge, part of the ambitious Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, is set to significantly improve traffic flow in one of the city’s busiest areas.
Stretching between Al Mina Street and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, the bridge is designed to handle 3,200 cars per hour, reducing congestion and enhancing overall traffic efficiency. This addition is the second bridge completed in the fourth phase of the project, which, when finished, will feature four bridges spanning a total of 3.1 kilometers, with a combined capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour.
The first bridge in this phase, opened in December 2024, connects Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to Al Mina Street and Falcon Intersection. Measuring over 1,300 meters with three lanes, it accommodates up to 4,800 cars per hour.
Soon, more bridges will follow. A third bridge, spanning 780 meters, will link Al Mina Street to Al Wasl Road. By the end of 2025, the fourth bridge will connect Jumeirah Street to the Falcon Intersection.
Also, the 13-kilometer Al Shindagha Corridor is undergoing a comprehensive transformation, including 4.8 kilometers of new roads, upgraded surface intersections, pedestrian bridges, improved drainage, better lighting, and advanced smart traffic systems.
The upgrades aim to reduce travel time along the corridor from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030. This will not only benefit commuters traveling between Deira and Bur Dubai but also serve major developments like Dubai Islands, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid.
By the time it’s complete, the project is expected to improve the lives of around one million residents, providing faster, safer, and more efficient travel. The economic impact is equally impressive, with projected savings of AED 45 billion in reduced travel time over the next 20 years.
