Dubai’s roads are about to become even more efficient, thanks to a major upgrade in the city’s traffic light system. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new project using artificial intelligence (AI) to make traffic signals smarter, helping cars move more smoothly through intersections.

The system, called UTC-UX Fusion, will be installed at key junctions across the city. It will be able to predict traffic patterns and adjust signal timings in real time, meaning fewer stops at red lights and a faster drive for everyone. A digital twin technology will also be used — this allows experts to test changes in a virtual model before applying them to real roads, ensuring every adjustment improves traffic flow.

The project is expected to be fully in place by mid-2026, making Dubai’s streets even more efficient.

Other recent traffic updates in Dubai include Al Qudra Street expansion, introducing a new 600-meter bridge will connect Arabian Ranches and Dubai Studio City, with four lanes in each direction to reduce congestion, and Dubai Loop by Elon Musk, an underground transport system and a 17km high-speed tunnel to carry over 20,000 passengers per hour.

With these innovations, Dubai continues to push forward in making city travel faster and more convenient for residents and visitors.
