Dalma Island is getting a major boost in connectivity with the launch of two new ferries — Dalma and Al Dhanna. These vessels are to improve maritime connectivity to Jebel Dhanna and Dalma Island and make travel to these two destinations more efficient and accessible.

Five Facts about New Abu Dhabi-Dalma Island Ferries:

1. Rediced travel time: only 40 minutes one way (compared to 2 hours before)

2. Each of the new ferries makes two trips per day

3. Huge capacity: each ferry can transport 193 passengers + 25 vehicles

4. Better accessibility: two internal elevators onboard to support people of determination

5. Improved comfort: modern seating and safety features

The new ferries are part of a broader initiative led by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, in collaboration with the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) and Abu Dhabi Maritime. These additions are expected to improve both tourism and community life on the island.

Sheikh Hamdan’s recent visit also included inspections of several other projects aimed at enhancing the island’s infrastructure and appeal:

  • Dalma Tourist Resort is under construction, featuring 20 chalets, heritage camping areas, restaurants, marine activities, and leisure zones
  • Coastal protection project with rock barriers planned near the eastern runway
  • Mountain bike trail project for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure tourism
  • New industrial zone to boost the local economy
  • Infrastructure upgrades focused on residential land rehabilitation

The visit concluded at Dalma Museum, housed in the restored Mohammed bin Jassim Al Muraikhi House, showcasing exhibits like traditional diving tools, pottery, pearls, and even whale bones discovered in the 1990s.

These developments signal a clear push to position Dalma Island as both a sustainable destination and a livable community, with enhanced transport and cultural offerings at its core.
