Travelling to Japan is about to get easier for UAE citizens. Starting July 1, 2025, UAE nationals holding ordinary passports will be able to stay in Japan for up to 90 days without a visa — a significant increase from the previous 30-day limit.

The update was confirmed by the UAE Embassy in Tokyo, and it applies to ordinary passport holders travelling for short-term purposes, such as sightseeing, business, or visiting friends and family.

To benefit from this extended visa-free entry to Japan, travellers must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a UAE national with a valid ordinary passport
  • The passport must be ICAO-compliant (an IC or electronic passport)
  • The purpose of the visit must be a short-term stay — including tourism, business trips, or personal visits

This move builds on the visa exemption agreement that has been in place since November 2022, allowing UAE citizens to enter Japan without a visa. Now, with the new 90-day stay rule, visitors will have even more flexibility to explore, work, or spend time with loved ones in Japan.

The UAE has also taken steps to ease travel for Japanese citizens. In 2024, it introduced a visa waiver for Japanese passport holders, allowing short-term stays of up to 90 days without a visa. These updates are part of the broader effort to strengthen bilateral relations between the UAE and Japan, particularly in areas like tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.

If you’re a UAE passport holder planning a trip to Japan, now is the perfect time to start preparing your itinerary — and enjoy a longer stay without extra paperwork.
