Great news for commuters traveling on one of Dubai’s busiest highways! After two months of construction, the Emirates Road repair project is nearing completion. The 14-kilometre stretch of road will be fully open by August 25, 2025, offering a smoother and more efficient commute for thousands of drivers.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has been working hard to resurface and reconstruct the highway to improve traffic flow and road quality. The work was done in stages, each one designed to minimize disruptions for commuters.

The project came about after inspections revealed a drop in the Pavement Quality Index (PQI), mainly due to heavy truck traffic. As a result, RTA took action to ensure the long-term durability of the road.

The fast lanes were resurfaced with new layers of asphalt, while the slow lanes were treated with fewer layers due to their lighter traffic load.

One of the main strategies behind the project was working on one side of the road at a time. This allowed for sections to be completed quickly before moving on to the next, which helped avoid major traffic jams. With this approach, drivers didn’t face long-lasting disruptions while ensuring high-quality work.

In addition to the Emirates Road improvements, Dubai is embracing new technology to make life easier for drivers. RTA has just launched the ‘Data Drive – Clear Guide’ platform, which analyzes traffic conditions in real-time and provides instant solutions to ease congestion. This new tool promises even more streamlined commutes, so drivers can look forward to smoother journeys around the city.
