Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has set out updated guidelines for the use of electric scooters, aiming to balance safety with sustainable urban mobility. These regulations provide a clear framework to ensure that riders and pedestrians can share public spaces responsibly.
E-scooters are allowed in the following locations:
- Internal roads where speed limits do not exceed 40 km/h
- Paths shared by pedestrians and cyclists
- Specific lanes created for bicycles and e-scooters

At the same time, the DMT prohibits the use of e-scooters in areas where risks are higher:
- Highways and roads with speed limits above 60 km/h
- Pedestrian-only walkways
Safety remains a top priority. Riders are expected to wear helmets, follow marked routes, observe speed limits, and avoid moving against traffic or engaging in any activity that could put themselves or others at risk.
As residents adapt to these mobility options, it’s also a good time to review other recent changes in the city, such as the updates to Abu Dhabi’s DARB toll system introduced in September 2025. Keeping up ensures a safer and smoother experience on the roads and public spaces across the emirate.
