Riyadh’s dining scene continues to grow, and the arrival of Abou el Sid adds a rich cultural note to the mix. Known for serving authentic Egyptian cuisine for over two decades, this beloved Cairo-born restaurant has officially opened in The Esplanade, following its debut in Jeddah.

With interiors inspired by a traditional Egyptian household, the new Riyadh branch balances nostalgia and comfort. The space features patterned tiled floors, minimalist wooden furniture, and soft turquoise couches. Walls adorned with retro photos and soft lighting create a relaxed and familiar atmosphere, enhanced by Tanoura dance performances during select evenings.

At Abou el Sid, the menu pays homage to classic Egyptian dishes. Diners can expect comforting plates like foul, fried aubergine, Alexandrian-style chicken liver, seafood tajin, roasted duck, and the famous Om Aly — a creamy, warm Egyptian dessert.

Beyond its food, Abou el Sid also carries a story that became the foundation of the restaurant’s concept.

It’s inspired by a man in old Cairo known for inviting guests into his home to share meals. One day, a disguised sultan tasted his dishes and offered him a position in the palace kitchen. Though the chef initially accepted, he later returned to his humble beginnings, keeping his treasured recipes secret.

Abou el Sid Riyadh blends heritage, storytelling, and flavour — offering a taste of Egypt right in the heart of Saudi Arabia.
