Abu Dhabi is making significant strides to improve daily commutes with the construction of two new bridges designed to streamline traffic along a key route. Announced by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), this infrastructure project promises to reduce travel delays and enhance connectivity across the city.
The project, valued at AED 315 million, targets a busy corridor linking Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street and Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street. This upgrade will facilitate smoother journeys for commuters heading to central Abu Dhabi, Zayed International Airport, Mussafah, and Hudayriyat Island.
Key Features of the Project:
- Three-lane flyover bridge on Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street.
- Two-lane bridge connecting Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street to the main route.
- Together, these additions span 742 metres of bridge length with ramps extending 990 metres.
- Infrastructure supported by 12 piers and illuminated with 61 new streetlights.
- 46,000 square metres of landscaping and over 15,000 cubic metres of concrete enhance the surroundings.
The bridges are designed to handle up to 7,500 vehicles per hour, offering immediate relief to congested areas and catering to future growth. Beyond easing traffic, the project includes pedestrian and cycling paths, upgraded service roads, and sustainable landscaping.
This development aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader goals of creating a smart and connected city. Plans also include a forthcoming underpass to meet the emirate’s growing transportation needs, ensuring the area remains prepared for future demand.
