Al Maktoum International Airport, also known as Dubai World Central (DWC), is on its way to becoming the world’s largest airport. A massive expansion is in progress, with a total investment of AED 128 billion, and now a new development phase is gaining attention.

Aviation services company Falcon has announced a major investment of over AED 360 million to upgrade its facility at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub in Dubai. This expansion will include a new private jet terminal, expected to be ready by 2030. Falcon’s facility specializes in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul, serving planes like the Airbus A380.

The broader Al Maktoum Airport project, launched in 2024, aims to make it five times larger than Dubai International Airport (DXB). Once complete, it will handle up to 260 million passengers per year. The first phase, expected within a decade, will accommodate 150 million travelers annually.

Construction is already in progress, and Falcon’s 2030 timeline suggests things may be moving faster than expected. Once finished, the airport will have:

  • Five parallel runways meeting the highest operational standards
  • More than 400 aircraft gates
  • Five passenger terminal buildings
  • A total area of 70 square kilometers

Eventually, all operations at Dubai International Airport will move to Al Maktoum International, making it the city’s primary aviation hub. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai World, has confirmed that the first phase will be completed within 10 years.

Dubai South, the district surrounding the airport, is also set for major development, turning the area into a key global aviation and logistics center. With billions being poured into this project, Al Maktoum International Airport is on track to redefine air travel, not just for Dubai but for the world.
