A new colour has officially joined the Pantone lineup — and it’s all about tradition, culture, and the desert tones of Saudi Arabia. On April 9, 2025, Diriyah Tan was introduced as a symbol of Diriyah, often called the City of Earth. This sandy-golden hue is more than just a visual trend — it tells a story rooted in the region’s past.
So, what exactly is Diriyah Tan?

The shade takes inspiration from the warm, earthy colours of local mud brick buildings. These traditional materials are a key part of the Najdi architectural style, found across the historic areas of Diriyah. If you’ve ever walked through At-Turaif, the UNESCO World Heritage site in Diriyah, the colour might look familiar — it’s everywhere, from walls to pathways.
You’ll likely start seeing Diriyah Tan used in branding, signs, and architecture across the city. It’s meant to bring a sense of connection between the old and the new, blending heritage with future developments in the area.

The colour was created in partnership with Pantone, a company known for its global colour system used by designers, artists, and brands to standardize colours across industries. Pantone also runs the Pantone Color Institute, which studies colour trends and creates special custom shades — like this one.
The collaboration was led by the Diriyah Company, which is behind major development projects in the area. CEO Jerry Inzerillo highlighted how Diriyah Tan reflects the look and feel of the city. Laurie Pressman of Pantone described the colour as a tribute to the past and a symbol of progress.
So next time you’re in Diriyah, take a moment to look around — and spot the tan that ties it all together.
