If you’ve been keeping an eye on the calendar to plan your next public holiday, the wait is over. The UAE has officially confirmed the start date of Eid Al Adha 2025, following the sighting of the crescent moon of Dhu Al Hijjah on the evening of Tuesday, May 27.

The Presidential Court announced that Wednesday, May 28, 2025, will be the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah, the final month in the Islamic lunar calendar. This means that:

  • Arafat Day, which falls on the 9th of Dhu Al Hijjah, will be observed on Thursday, June 5, 2025
  • Eid Al Adha, celebrated on the 10th of Dhu Al Hijjah, will begin on Friday, June 6, 2025

With these official dates in place, UAE residents can look forward to a long weekend:

  • Thursday, June 5 – Arafat Day
  • Friday, June 6 – first day of Eid Al Adha
  • Saturday, June 7 & Sunday, June 8 – weekend

This update follows previous astronomical predictions from the Emirates Astronomy Society, which had forecast a similar timeline based on moon sighting criteria. The lunar calendar, used to determine Islamic holidays, relies on the visibility of the moon to mark the start of each month. This year’s official confirmation aligns closely with earlier calculations.

With a confirmed four-day break ahead, it might be time to start planning how you’ll spend this Eid holiday — whether it’s with travel, rest, or family time.
