Etihad Airways just made travelling to Japan a whole lot easier. The Abu Dhabi-based airline has teamed up with Hong Kong Airlines in a new codeshare partnership, which basically means you can now reach more places without the stress of multiple bookings.

So what’s a codeshare? It’s when two airlines share the same flight: meaning you can buy one ticket that covers your entire trip, check in once, and have your bags transferred automatically, even if you’re switching between airlines.

If the Land of the Rising Sun has been on your travel list, this is a great reason to start planning. And if you hold UAE passport, you’re in luck: now, Emirati nationals can enjoy up to a 90-day visa-free stay in Japan, making the entire trip even more simple.

Thanks to the new partnership, travellers can now book seamless journeys from Abu Dhabi to four popular Japanese destinations: Fukuoka, Hokkaido-Sapporo, Osaka, and Okinawa. You’ll be flying with Etihad on one leg and Hong Kong Airlines on the next, but under a single booking.

Curious about what’s next for Etihad Airways? The airline is expanding even further with two new destinations in Southeast Asia and seven more across Central Asia, Europe, and the Caucasus starting in 2026.

The partnership not only opens the door to Japan but also strengthens Abu Dhabi’s growing role as a travel hub connecting East and West. Stay tuned! More travel news and fresh routes from Etihad Airways are just around the corner.
