Drivers in Abu Dhabi will notice a change on one of the city’s busiest routes. A new variable speed limit has come into effect on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street, starting Monday, October 27. The update, introduced by Abu Dhabi Mobility (Integrated Transport Centre), means that speed limits along the road can now change at any time based on real-time conditions.

In some cases, the limit could temporarily drop from 100 km/h to 80 km/h, so it’s important to keep an eye on the digital road signs and adjust your speed accordingly. The system aims to keep traffic moving smoothly and improve overall road safety.

The displayed limit could shift depending on several factors, including:

  • Ongoing roadworks
  • Rush hour congestion
  • Fog, rain, or sandstorms
  • Major public events nearby

This change follows another update made in April 2025 when Abu Dhabi removed the minimum speed limit on E311 (Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road), allowing slower vehicles to travel without fines below 120 km/h.
