Al Estiqlal Square in Sharjah has undergone a major transformation, and it’s ready to impress both locals and visitors. Inaugurated on December 2, 2025, by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, it now features a new landmark. The place has also been redesigned to make it easier to navigate and safer for everyone who visits.
The centerpiece of the square is the striking 34-meter-high Independence Monument. At the top of the monument is a seven-pointed star, representing the seven emirates of the UAE. Around the monument, you’ll notice two new fountains and pedestrian pathways inviting to take a leisurely stroll.

The 24 buildings surrounding the square have also been renovated with new exterior designs that reflect Sharjah’s distinctive architectural style, giving the area a more modern feel.
One of the most notable upgrades is Imam Al Nawawi Mosque, which has been restored in the Fatimid architectural style. The mosque now features new minarets, an external arcade, and improved facilities, creating an even more welcoming space for worshippers and visitors.

With all the changes, Al Estiqlal Square is now a must-visit spot in Sharjah for both tourists and locals. If you’re looking to explore more of the city, check out best things to do in Sharjah and explore its top places, attractions and activities.
