If you’re travelling to or from the UAE, there’s a one step you need to keep in mind. Anyone carrying cash, jewellery, cheques, or precious stones worth over AED 60,000 must declare them through the official Afseh online platform. This applies to all passengers aged 18 and above.

The service is free of charge and currently available for travellers passing through Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or Ras Al Khaimah international airports.

You can complete the declaration on the Afseh website or via the Afseh mobile app, available on Apple and Android devices. Here’s how it works in 3 steps.

Step 1: Create an account and log in

Go to declare.customs.ae and log in using your UAE Pass. Once you’re logged in, your personal info like Emirates ID and visa details will be filled in automatically. If you live in the UAE, you’ll need to provide your full address and mobile number.

If you’re a visitor, provide the following information:

  • Country and city
  • Full address
  • Phone number

Step 2: Complete your customs declaration

Once logged in, go to your dashboard and click ‘Apply for a new declaration request’. Then enter the following information:

  • Travel type (arrival or departure) and date
  • Emirate and port type (air, sea, land)
  • Destination or origin
  • Airline and ticket number

Next, declare your items:

  • Choose from currencies, personal goods, jewellery, or precious stones
  • If declaring cash, select the currency and amount
  • Save and submit your form

Step 3: Wait for approval

After submitting, your request will be reviewed by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP). Once approved, you’ll get an SMS and a notification on the Afseh dashboard.

If you’re a frequent flyer, take note that Emirates will ban the use of power banks during flights starting October 1, 2025. It’s one more regulation to be aware of as you prepare for your trip.
