Kuwait has introduced a revised residency framework that may be important for many expatriates considering a long-term life in the country. The new system allows eligible residents to apply for long-term residence permits of up to 15 years. These changes were issued under Article 7 of the Executive Regulations of the Law on the Residence of Foreigners.

Certain groups can now go beyond five-year limit. Depending on your category and whether you meet the required conditions, you may be able to secure a permit valid for up to 10 years. This option is meant for residents who have stronger family or economic links to Kuwait.

The longest duration (up to 15 years) is intended for expatriate investors. To qualify, applicants need to meet the requirements under Kuwait’s foreign capital investment law, along with additional conditions approved by the Council of Ministers.

Other categories also benefit from extended residency terms:

  • the child of a Kuwaiti citizen
  • expatriates who own property in Kuwait

The Minister of Interior can also expand these categories through official decisions, allowing more flexibility as the system evolves.

Here’s another recent update worth your attention: Kuwait has approved the change of 591 street names to numbers. This shift will modernize the addressing system and may affect residents, businesses, and service providers, so it’s important to stay informed.
