Oman has officially raised the bar — quite literally — with the unveiling of the country’s tallest flagpole. Towering at 126 metres, the new structure stands in Al Khuwair Square in Muscat and is now the highest man-made feature in the Sultanate, roughly the height of a 40-storey building.

The inauguration ceremony took place under the patronage of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, and was attended by Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, along with other senior officials.

This project is more than just a visual landmark. It aligns with Oman Vision 2040, reflecting national aspirations for development, pride, and progress.

Facts about Oman’s tallest flagpole:

  • Height: 126 metres
  • Flag size: 18 metres by 31.5 metres
  • Steel used: 135 tonnes
  • Diameter: 2,800mm at the base, narrowing to 900mm at the top
  • Safety feature: Includes a warning light system for aircraft

The flagpole is just one part of a much larger urban development. 18,000 sqm Al Khuwair Square is being designed as a multi-purpose community destination. The goal is to create a dynamic space that blends leisure, fitness, and community interaction. Planned features include a central plaza, green lawns and walkways, skate park, cycle tracks, a cafeteria, and multiple sports and entertainment facilities.

With this new landmark, Oman is not just raising a flag — it’s elevating its public spaces and making room for new social and cultural experiences in the capital.
