Get ready for a transportation revolution in Saudi Arabia! The much-anticipated Riyadh Metro is set to begin operations with its first phase rolling out on November 27. This milestone marks the debut of what is hailed as the longest driverless metro system in the world.
The initial launch will see three lines opening, as confirmed by Riyadh Metro on X (formerly Twitter). With a total of six lines, the entire metro network will span an impressive 176 kilometers and include 84 stations.
The second phase, which will complete the remaining three routes, is expected to be operational by mid-December. At an estimated cost of $22.5 billion, this ambitious project reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and easing urban transit.
Riyadh Metro will feature six lines:
- Blue Line
- Red Line
- Orange Line
- Yellow Line
- Green Line
- Purple Line
Once fully operational, it will significantly enhance connectivity across the capital city. This metro system is also a groundbreaking addition to Saudi Arabia’s public transport landscape, following the first metro project launched in Makkah in 2010 for Haj pilgrims.
With its modern design and focus on sustainability, the Riyadh Metro promises to redefine daily commuting, reduce traffic congestion, and boost urban mobility.
