Dubai’s marine transport services are getting a smart seasonal upgrade. Starting May 2, 2025, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will introduce a dynamic scheduling system powered by advanced analytics, predictive modelling, and big data — aimed at fine-tuning ferry, abra, and water taxi services across the city.
The move comes as part of the RTA’s Seasonal Network initiative, which will allow the transport authority to adapt trip frequencies and timings based on real-time demand trends. Using historical and current data, the system will evaluate changes in passenger volume, occupancy levels, revenue generation, and demand surges tied to public holidays, festivals, and major events.

This new approach means schedules will no longer stay fixed throughout the year. Instead, they will be updated and tailored for each season, starting with the summer. The goal is to strike a balance between customer convenience and operational efficiency, ensuring trips are better timed, more relevant, and more in sync with actual demand.
By leveraging digital tools and adaptive planning, the RTA hopes to improve not only user satisfaction but also the overall sustainability of Dubai’s marine transport services. Whether you’re hopping on a ferry for your daily commute or taking a scenic abra ride, expect smarter service this summer — and beyond.
