Sharjah drivers now have another reason to pay their traffic fines on time. Authorities have confirmed the continuation of a discount scheme offering up to 35% off traffic fines — but timing is key.

If a traffic fine is paid on time, the following discounts apply:

  • 35% discount if paid within 60 days of the violation date
  • 25% discount if paid after 60 days but within one year

The discount does not apply to certain serious offences. Here’s the list of 40 no-discount traffic violations provided by Sharjah Police.

Major Speeding and Signal Violations

  • Exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 60 km/h
  • Exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 80 km/h
  • Jumping a red signal by a light vehicle
  • Jumping a red signal by a heavy vehicle
  • Jumping a red signal by a motorcycle
  • Sudden swerving
  • Dangerous overtaking
  • Overtaking on the hard shoulder
  • Overtaking from a prohibited place (by trucks)

Driving Under the Influence and Reckless Behaviour

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol
  • Driving under the influence of narcotics, psychotropic, or similar substances
  • Driving in a way that endangers the driver’s life or others
  • Driving in a way that damages public or private property
  • Running away from a traffic policeman
  • Distracted driving
  • Driving a noisy vehicle

Accidents, Injury, and Emergency Violations

  • Causing the death of others
  • Causing a serious accident or injuries
  • Light vehicle driver failing to stop after causing a minor accident
  • Heavy vehicle driver failing to stop after causing a minor accident
  • Failure to maintain a safe distance
  • Not giving way to emergency, police, or public service vehicles or official convoys
  • Rubbernecking or crowding at accident scenes

Heavy Vehicle Offenses and Improper Loading

  • Heavy vehicle driver causing their vehicle or another to overturn
  • Improperly loading a heavy vehicle in a way that endangers others
  • Loading a heavy vehicle in a way that damages the road
  • Entry of prohibited heavy vehicles
  • Falling or leaking of a heavy vehicle’s load
  • Operating industrial, construction, or mechanical vehicles and tractors without proper licensing
  • Transporting flammable or hazardous materials without permission

Public Safety, Parking, and Pedestrian Violations

  • Transporting passengers illegally
  • School bus driver failing to activate the “Stop” sign or abide by traffic rules
  • Failure to stop when the school bus “Stop” sign is activated
  • Parking in front of fire hydrants
  • Parking in spaces designated for people with special needs
  • Stopping on the road without reason
  • Exceeding the permitted level of window tinting
  • Tinting a vehicle that is not permitted to be tinted
  • Pedestrians failing to obey traffic signals
  • Pedestrians crossing from undesignated areas

Sharjah first introduced the fine discount system two years ago. The current initiative was reaffirmed during the recent Sharjah Executive Council meeting, chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council.
