Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a key upgrade on Sheikh Zayed Road, enhancing traffic flow near Umm Al Sheif Street exit. It’s one of the city’s most important highways, linking major hubs such as the DIFC, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, residential areas, offices, and top leisure destinations.

Here’s what changed in this part of Sheikh Zayed Road after the works:

  • RTA widened a 700-metre stretch near Umm Al Sheif Street
  • Engineers added a seventh lane, boosting the road’s capacity by 16%
  • The upgrade allows to accommodate up to 14,000 vehicles per hour

The additional lane is expected to reduce traffic density, enhance safety, and cut travel times, particularly for vehicles arriving from Abu Dhabi through the Umm Al Sheif exit, a known congestion point during peak hours.

This project is just one of several initiatives currently underway to improve the city’s road network. RTA is currently carrying out works in six residential areas to further improve traffic flow and road safety.
