The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially rolled out the first phase of its new 10-year residency program – the Blue Visa. This visa is designed for individuals who have made significant contributions to environmental sustainability.
Who Can Get the UAE Blue Visa?
The Blue Visa is awarded to people actively working to protect the environment, both in the UAE and internationally. This includes:
- Members of international environmental organizations
- Employees of companies focused on sustainability
- Winners of global environmental awards
- Activists and researchers with notable achievements
In this first phase, 20 sustainability leaders will receive the Blue Visa. The UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) made the announcement during the World Governments Summit 2025.
The UAE first introduced the idea of the Blue Visa in May 2024 as part of its mission to become a global leader in sustainability and environmental innovation. Now, as of February 2025, applications are officially open. This new visa joins the UAE’s existing long-term residency programs, including the Golden Visa and the Green Residency Permit.
How to Apply for the UAE Blue Visa
Interested individuals can apply through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP). There are two ways to apply:
- Direct application: submit an application online through the ICP platform.
- Nomination: a recognized authority in the UAE can nominate candidates based on their contributions to environmental sustainability.
